Inspired by traditional Delft patterns, Maison Kira combines a recognisable, refined visual language with the spontaneous imagination of a child. His girlfriend’s two-year-old niece was given the freedom to add her own drawings to the work.
“I wanted to incorporate the natural imperfection of a child’s drawing into my work and make her imagination a real part of the design. The contrast between the traditional Delft style and her simple, uninhibited lines makes the work special to me. In a world where everything is expected to be polished and perfect, we could use a little more room for the spontaneous, the playful and the imperfect.”
